Code for Sustainable Homes
Each category includes a number of environmental issues which have a potential impact on the environment. The issues can be assessed against a performance target and awarded one or more credits. Performance targets are more demanding than the minimum standard needed to satisfy Building Regulations or other legislation. They represent good or best practice, are technically feasible and achievable.
The Code uses a sustainability rating system – indicated by ‘stars’, to communicate the overall sustainability performance of a home. A home can achieve a sustainability rating from one to six stars depending on the extent to which it has achieved Code standards. One star is the lowest level (above the level of the Building Regulations) and six stars is the highest level – reflecting exemplary development in sustainability terms.
The category that the Wienerberger Bat box can help with is the Ecology Category. Within this category there is a potential to gain credits for ecological enhancement, protection of ecological features and change in the ecological value of the site. When installed, the bat box can help towards gaining the potential credits on offer.
