Building Brilliance: Celebrating Construction Excellence in Awards Season

Published 09/12/24

As awards season draws to a close, wienerberger UK reflects on the awe-inspiring projects and remarkable partnerships that are shaping the future of the built environment. Join us in celebrating the innovation and craftsmanship that make our industry thrive.

Awards season is over for another year, and what a season it’s been. November saw the UK construction industry come together to recognise and celebrate the exceptional projects, partnerships, and products that are transforming our built environment. At wienerberger UK, we’re proud to have played our part, supporting the industry with innovative solutions, enduring partnerships, and a steadfast commitment to quality.

This year, the spotlight shone brightly on projects that not only showcased technical brilliance but also the artistry of construction. We’re thrilled to see many of these achievements featuring wienerberger products, demonstrating the transformative power of collaboration and design excellence.

Facade Awards UK: Celebrating First Impressions

The season kicked off in Manchester at the Facade Awards UK 2024, where facades and cladding projects took center stage. The event celebrated contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers who push the boundaries of design and execution. Among the shortlisted entries for the Best New Build Projects was the Stockport Interchange delivered by Precision Facades using our Corium brick slip system. Part of Stockport’s £1 billion town centre regeneration, Stockport Interchange is a mixed-use development that includes a residential complex, with 196 homes.

Brick Awards: Honouring Tradition and Innovation

The Brick Development Assocation Brick Awards, fastly approaching their half-century, remain a pinnacle of recognition for clay brick projects. Held in London, this year’s event showcased the best in brick craftsmanship across 18 categories. We were particularly excited to sponsor the Innovation Award, which recognised the Hybrick Science Museum Bench. Built by Lyons & Annoot at The Science Museum is a subtle way of highlighting that clay brick doesn’t have to change form, or structure, or style but can change its environmental impact in such a positive way, and remain the product of choice for developers and architects no matter what level of the building process is looked at.

Other winners included 31/44 Architects, who used our Staffordshire Smooth Brown bricks to win the Individual Housing Category, and Shay Cleary Architects, with the Sandford Lodge Apartments project in Dublin representing a landmark achievement in sustainable urban development. This project showcases how innovative design, sustainable materials, and advanced technologies can come together to create modern, eco-friendly living spaces in an urban setting earning the Worldwide Award. These projects demonstrate how thoughtful material use and expert craftsmanship can breathe new life into spaces. Add to that our work with Cara Brickwork on the Monk Bridge project in Leeds – they picked up the Specialist Brickwork Contractor Award

Pitched Roofing Awards: Raising the Roof

Back in Manchester, the Pitched Roofing Awards 2024 highlighted exceptional collaborations in roofing. We’re really proud that one of our own projects, delivered using our new Renatus proposition picked up the Sustainable Project of the Year award for the Thameswey Woking development. This was a highly contested award where we were up against another project, Castle and Coast by DLP using our innovative in-roof solar.

AJ Architecture Awards: Shaping Tomorrow’s Skylines

Celebrating architectural innovation, the AJ Architecture Awards recognised outstanding projects across diverse categories. Making another appearance on the shortlist for the prestigious Manser Medal was the Six Columns project by 31/44 Architects. Whilst they missed out on the main prize, we are sure they can be comforted by the fact they had already won RIBA House of the Year earlier in the week. This a truly great project and demonstrates the use of effective design maximising available space coupled with the right products. Other shortlisted projects at the AJs include Hanbury Hall, using our premium handmade Keymer roof tiles, Queens Business School by Todd Architects and 300 Harrow Road by Child Graddon Lewis. All these projects are impressive, reflected by being shortlisted across multiple industry awards.
