Social impact

Our social impact agenda brings together our mission and our purpose to improve people’s quality of life by providing shelter.

We focus on how we contribute positively to society through our people, our partnerships and the communities connected to our sites and products.

This work recognises access to safe, secure and high‑quality shelter as a core social issue in the UK and Ireland, while reflecting the role we can play in supporting skills, inclusion and opportunity across the construction value chain. Our approach is long‑term and partnership‑led, guided by clear priorities and integrated into how we operate, supporting our ambition to be a socially responsible business as we build for what’s next.

Our people

Our people are central to wienerberger’s success, including our ability to create positive social impact. We aim to provide our colleagues with a safe, healthy and inclusive working environment, with opportunities to develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive, now and in the future.

This includes championing safe working practices, diversity and inclusion, and promoting careers in construction. We encourage employees to contribute to our wider sustainability programme through initiatives such as our Biodiversity and STEM Ambassador programmes. These efforts help connect our people to our purpose and empower them to make a difference.

Why is this important?

We must provide a working environment that helps our colleagues realise their potential, because our success is made possible by our people.

Our ambition for 2030

We will support the health and wellbeing of our colleagues and attract a diverse workforce.

Making this happen

  • We have created a diversity, equality and inclusion action plan, outlining our priorities for future work.
  • We continue to enhance our employees’ quality of life at work by providing a holistic employee assistance programme, which supports mental and physical health and safety.
  • We will encourage employees to utilise green spaces during their working day. Where practical we will include a nature trail within each manufacturing site’s Biodiversity Enhancement Management Plan.
  • We will proactively target groups adversely affected by homelessness through our work experience, skills development and recruitment activity.
  • We will empower employees to undertake volunteering opportunities.

Our partners

Partnerships play a vital role in how we deliver improved social and environmental outcomes. We work with specialist organisations to address complex social and environmental challenges that cannot be solved alone, focusing on long‑term collaboration rather than one‑off activity.

Our partnerships span social and environmental priorities, including supporting people affected by homelessness, helping care experienced young people access skills and opportunities, and working with conservation partners to protect and restore nature. These relationships allow us to align our expertise, products and resources with real societal needs.

Why is this important?

By working with like-minded partners, we can discover, test and implement solutions faster and more effectively than acting alone.

Our ambition for 2030

We will have curated a network of trusted partners to tackle the interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, resource scarcity and homelessness.

Making this happen

  • We continue to extend our social impact though social procurement and ethical supply chain decisions.
  • We continue to work with a variety of organisations, including customers and suppliers, to generate positive outcomes for communities.
  • We continue to advocate for biodiversity promotion through policy consultation responses, industry forums and other relevant opportunities as a signatory to Business for Nature’s Call to Action.
  • We will grow our existing partnerships, such as those with local Wildlife Trusts and the RSPB, to promote biodiversity at our manufacturing and office sites.
  • We will collaborate with a network of partners to tackle homelessness.

Our communities

We aim to have a positive presence in the communities where we operate. This includes responsible site management, community engagement and support that reflects local needs and priorities.

Our community activities include product donations, volunteering and fundraising, and education initiatives. Together, these actions help strengthen community cohesion and build trusted relationships over time.

Why is this important?

Community connections are essential for creating a strong, stable society where individuals feel secure and supported.

Our ambition for 2030

We will positively contribute to the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of the local areas within which we operate.

Making this happen

  • We continue to donate products to community healthcare, education and leisure facilities.
  • We continue to empower staff to fundraise for causes close to their hearts.
  • We will collaborate with community groups and schools on environmental and social initiatives.
