    Certificate guide

Below is an A-Z guide of our product and production certificates

    BES 6001

BES 6001 (The BRE Global Environmental and Sustainability Standard) provides a framework for the responsible sourcing of construction products. Organisations are assessed on environmental and social aspects such as supply chain management, labour practices and stakeholder engagement. This results in a performance ranking of Pass, Good, Very Good or Excellent reflecting the organisation’s level of compliance. All Wienerberger’s UK manufactured products achieve Excellent status under BES 6001.

    Declaration of Performance (DoP)

A DoP declares the technical performance of a construction product against the relevant harmonised European standard (hEN) or a European Technical Assessment. The Declaration of Performance will be embedded within a QR code on the CE Marking label attached to every pack or pallet, or alternatively it may be downloaded from here by entering a unique product code which is also displayed on the CE Marking label.

    EC Certificate

Factory Production Control EC certificates are an essential part of the CE marking process as they confirm that a manufacturer’s Factory Production Control system fulfils the requirements of the Construction Products Regulation. Wienerberger’s clay brick factories are declared at attestation level 2+ which requires an externally verified FPC system.

    Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

An Environmental Product Declaration is a document that attempts to quantify the environmental performance of a product against impact categories including global warming potential (GWP), ozone depletion, acidification of soil and water and depletion of other natural resources. EPDs utilise life cycle assessment data that conform to the relevant Product Category Rules, which are based on the European standard EN 15804.

EPDs can be used by manufacturers to identify opportunities for process improvements, or by customers in whole building assessment schemes and Building Information Modelling. Since different types of construction products have different Product Category Rules, direct comparisons between materials is not always possible. Wienerberger’s UK manufactured products are covered by the BDA Generic Brick EPD, and some imported products have an EPD or similar certificate, such as NaturePlus or a Cradle2Cradle assessment.

    ISO 50001

Energy Management System ISO 50001 provides a framework for improving energy efficiency. Organisations commit to reducing energy use and monitor progress against targets and objectives. The energy management system complements overall efforts to improve quality and environmental management. Wienerberger's certified ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS) covers the manufacture and distribution of all UK manufactured products including bricks, pavers and roof tiles along with the associated office administrative and support functions.

    ISO 14001

Environmental Management System ISO 14001 enables organisations to identify, evaluate and minimise environmental impacts associated with the provision of products or services. It also includes a review of applicable environmental legislation to ensure compliance. Wienerberger's certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) covers all UK manufactured products. Certificates are also available for some imported products.

    ISO 9001

Quality Management System ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a quality management system which enables organisations to deliver products and services that consistently meet customers' requirements, and consistently improve their quality. All of Wienerberger's UK manufactured bricks, pavers and roof tiles are within scope of our certified ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) which is audited by independent third-party assessors. Certificates are also available for some imported products.

    Shield Mark certification

Wienerberger’s Shield Mark certificates demonstrate that the relevant factories comply with the product conformity standards for Clay Bricks (EN771-1) and Clay Roof Tiles (EN1304). These are verified by independent third-party assessors.

    Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

MSDS provide product information such as handling instructions, physical and chemical properties and hazard identification which can be used to prevent workplace exposure and accidents. These are available for UK manufactured bricks and roof tiles.

    Natureplus

Natureplus is a multi-stakeholder eco-label for construction products which was developed in partnership with industry, WWF Switzerland, FSC and Greenpeace. Products and their manufacturing process undergo rigorous testing and must meet strict criteria relating to climate protection, healthy accommodation, and sustainability. It is the consideration of a product’s health impact as well as quality and environmental-friendliness which differentiates Natureplus from other eco-labels.
