Honouring Outstanding Brickwork: wienerberger Projects Nominated for the 2025 BDA Awards

Published 30/06/25

The art of brickwork has evolved greatly over the years, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship, innovative techniques, and sustainable practices. One of the platforms that celebrates this evolution is the Brick Development Association (BDA) Awards. A prestigious event in the construction industry calendar, the BDA Awards recognise excellence and creativity in brick architecture and design.

BDA has unveiled the shortlist of outstanding projects for this year’s awards, and wienerberger is honoured to have contributed to 18 exceptional projects that earned a place on the list.

Project Spotlights

Pine Cottage, Cheshire

Category: Craftsmanship

Architect: Wake Morley Architects

Pine Cottage is a private residence that embodies the Arts and Crafts style, integrating beautifully into its picturesque Cheshire landscape. The project highlights the meticulous craftsmanship of brick detailing, elevating the home’s architectural elegance.

The intricate brickwork features subtle arches, stepped headers, and delicate chimney stacks rotated at unique angles, exemplifying refined attention to detail. The Hathaway Brindled bricks, with their rich tone and texture, lend the home a timeless quality while seamlessly connecting it to its surroundings. Pine Cottage is a true testament to how brick can bring vibrancy, depth, and character into architectural design, deserving its nomination in the Craftsmanship category.

Ross Street Mews, Belfast

Categories: Housing Development (2-100) and Urban Regeneration

Architect: Studiorogers Architects

Ross Street Mews is an inspiring housing-led regeneration scheme located in one of Belfast’s most deprived urban areas. This £4.8 million development delivers 24 energy-efficient homes while breathing new life into the Falls area of West Belfast.

Observing Belfast’s red brick heritage, Mozart Blend bricks were chosen to harmoniously connect the scheme to its urban environment while symbolising renewed confidence in the area. The use of south-facing private gardens, sustainable materials, and an innovative mews concept highlights a holistic approach to regeneration, creating a welcoming and connected community. By redefining the potential of small-scale, high-quality housing, Ross Street Mews excels in both housing development and urban regeneration.

TIDE Bankside, London

Categories: Innovation and Commercial

Architect: Squire & Partners

TIDE Bankside is a state-of-the-art net-zero workspace located within London’s culturally rich Bankside area. Its striking façade emulates natural erosion patterns, inspired by the Thames’ riverbanks, blending organic forms with advanced technology.

What sets TIDE Bankside apart is its pioneering approach to creating the façade. The Smeed Dean London Stock bricks were uniquely shaped using water-jet technology, ensuring no material was wasted. This innovative technique allowed for the creation of sculptural arboresque columns that visually narrate the forces of nature while meeting modern sustainability standards.

With BREEAM Outstanding accreditation, TIDE Bankside exemplifies the future of eco-friendly commercial spaces that prioritise design, durability, and environmental impact.
