On Thursday 8th August, we were thrilled to be at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, where over 3,000 visitors joined us for the Super Trowel 2024 final. As joint main sponsors of the event, alongside Jewson, we were proud to play a key role in celebrating the exceptional skill, speed, and dedication of the UK’s top bricklayers.
Our sponsorship involved donating a total of 20,000 bricks across the regional heats and the final, with around 8,000 of those bricks going to further education colleges to inspire the bricklayers of the future. Staying true to our sustainability commitments, all bricks used in the competition were recycled and donated to not-for-profit organisations.
The atmosphere at the final was electric, with competitors pushing their skills to the limit. Despite a rocky start, last year’s champion, Charlie Collison once again claimed the title of the UK’S fastest bricklayer, laying an incredible 720 bricks in just 60 minutes. Charlie’s impressive performance earned him £4,500 in prize money and a spot in the American final in Las Vegas next year. Ewan Habberfield and Ash Mahoney also put up a fantastic fight, taking second and third place, respectively.
Wienerberger were one of over 60 exhibitors that filled the Marshall Arena, creating a vibrant marketplace where construction professionals could connect. Our stand was buzzing with activity throughout the day as visitors explored our product offerings, including our eco-brick range and the chance to produce their own Keymer handmade roof tile.
We had the pleasure of catching up with Charlie Collison after his win, and he shared his thoughts on the impact of competitions like Super Trowel on the Industry.
“It is so good that the bricklaying community, and other trades as well, have come here today and had a great day,” said Charlie. “There are loads of apprentices here, which is what we are lacking in. It’s just a great event. For me, if I was an apprentice seeing this, it would inspire me to become a bricklayer – to see the atmosphere, the skill, and the determination.”
He also expressed his gratitude to the sponsors. “It wouldn’t happen without you. It’s brilliant that you’ve given it the chance and got involved again. Last year was nothing compared to this year. Without you-the bricks, the staff, the muck – everyone coming together it wouldn’t happen. Everyone played their part, especially the sponsors.”
