wienerberger sites embrace Biodiversity Action Week

Published 09/05/25

At wienerberger UK & Ireland, we are committed not only to helping our customers create sustainable and biodiverse spaces but also to preserving and protecting the wildlife and natural habitats on our own sites across the UK. That’s why we were proud to take part in wienerberger's Global Biodiversity Action Week, joining colleagues around the world in making a positive impact on nature.

Across the UK, our teams embraced the opportunity to enhance local biodiversity, educate our communities, and inspire action. Here’s how we celebrated Biodiversity Action Week at our sites:

At Ewhurst, we welcomed visitors for a Heritage Open Day featuring a guided tour of our thriving wildlife garden. The event included a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) session focused on biodiversity, offering practical advice for colleagues, suppliers, and neighbours on how to support nature at home and in the workplace—from planting pollinator-friendly flowers to installing bug hotels.

At our Waresley site, we created a dedicated invertebrate habitat to support pollinators and small wildlife. The area features, planting of native pollinator friendly flowers and plants installing bug hotels, hibernacula piles and bird boxes to provide essential shelter and food sources for a wide range of species. Similarly, at Todhills, old tyres were creatively upcycled into planters, further enhancing the environment. Filled with pollinator-friendly plants, these vibrant planters reduce waste while also contributing to habitat creation—proof that small, simple changes can have a meaningful environmental impact.

At Hartlebury and Sandtoft, our dedication to supporting biodiversity has grown even stronger with recent enhancements to the site's wildflower planting. These improvements include vibrant additions along grass verges and within the meadow, creating a richer, more sustainable habitat for local wildlife. This supports local pollinators and adds natural beauty to the surrounding area—an action that benefits both people and wildlife. We installed additional bug hotels and introduced new planting, continuing to transform the space into a thriving haven for insects and other wildlife.

These initiatives highlight our belief that every action—no matter how small—can make a difference. This was beautifully exemplified in a webinar hosted by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, where our staff from Cheadle and other offices learned practical ways to make a difference right from their own homes

Biodiversity Action Week has motivated our teams, partners, and local communities to embrace innovative ideas and take meaningful action to protect the natural world. Stay tuned for updates on how we’re fostering biodiversity at our own sites and supporting our customers in creating greener, more sustainable spaces.
