Welcome to Ewhurst Quarry

This quarry is owned and operated by wienerberger. We’re one of the largest producers of clay bricks, blocks and tiles in the world.

At Ewhurst Quarry...
the brickmaking site is steeped in history, with its clay-rich land providing the perfect foundation for high-quality brick production. Known for its quality materials and continuous development, the site has played an important role in local industry and still stands as a testament to traditional brickmaking combined with modern innovation.

The history of Ewhurst Quarry

Historical timeline:
 
  • Early 1900s – Industrial-scale clay extraction and brick manufacture believed to have begun.
  • 1948 – Planning permission granted for continued clay extraction.
  • Post-1948 – Numerous improvements made, including further extraction permissions and new or replacement buildings.
  • 1999 – A new kiln installed in a purpose-built, architecturally designed facility.
  • 2007 – Production declined following the global economic downturn.
  • 2014 – Brickworks fully reopened, restoring production.
