Types of Arch

Flat Gauge Arch

A typical flat arch suitable for all kinds of openings. Flat gauge arches usually have a brick and bat pattern between 3 and 5 courses high (215mm, 290mm, 365mm). Flat gauge arches are often un-faced on the soffit, but can be faced on soffit where the underside is visible.

Semi-raised Flat Gauge Arch

Similar to a flat gauge arch, but with an arched rise along the bottom edge while the top of the arch remains flat. These arches also have the option for the rise to be solid with an infill panel, the infill can be brick, plastic, painted or render prepared. The soffit is un-faced on a semi-raised flat gauge arch. This type of arch generally has a brick and bat pattern between 3 and 5 courses high (215mm, 290mm, 365mm).

Segmental Arch

Segmental arches are made up of identical slightly tapered bricks. These arches typically have a rise of 75 or 150mm (1 or 2 courses). Segmental arches have a number of options on the bond pattern, single header 102mm, double header 215mm, soldier 215mm, or brick and bat pattern between 3 and 5 courses high (215mm, 290mm, 365mm). These arches also have the option for the rise to be solid with an infill panel, the infill can be brick, plastic, painted or render prepared.

Bullseye Arch

The bullseye, also known as a circular or full arch, it offers an attractive decorative brick framing option, typically used for circular windows or openings. They can be produced as either un-faced or faced on soffit. Bullseye arches have a number of options on the bond pattern, single header 102mm, double header 215mm, soldier 215mm, or brick and bat pattern between 3 and 5 courses high (215mm, 290mm, 365mm).

Restoration Arch

Restoration arches are frequently used when renovating of old houses, where an original arch is being replaced or a new one is required to match existing arches in the area. These are typically 215mm, 290mm, or 365mm high brick and bat pattern, with finely pointed 3mm joints. They can be un-faced or faced on soffit.

Semi-Circular Arch

A semi-circular arch is like a segmental arch, but the shape is continued round to form an attractive semi-circle. These provide the option for a large infill area (without an infill, the arch has the option to have a faced soffit instead). Semi-circular arches have a number of options on the bond pattern, single header 102mm, double header 215mm, soldier 215mm, or brick and bat pattern between 3 and 5 courses high (215mm, 290mm, 365mm). These arches also have the option for the rise to be solid with an infill panel. The infill can be brick, plastic, painted or render prepared.

Backing and Soffit Options

All our prefabricated arches use a lightweight panel system comprising of a polyurethane foam core between two 100mm magnesium particle boards, with brick slips making the depth 100mm overall. This provides a lightweight solution for quick installation without the need for lifting equipment. When supplying prefabricated arches for rendered houses we cut the slips to 25mm-30mm. This provides a wider edge for the render to butt up against.

The underside of the arch (the soffit) can be supplied with or without facing brick. This is used in situations where the window is recessed and the underside of the arch is revealed. The faced soffit is a quick and easy solution for finishing.

Infill Panel Options

Infill panel options are available for raised arches that require the space between the window or door frame to be filled.

  • PVC plastic (recommended for PVC window and door frames) in white PVC standard colour (others available on request)
  • Painted infill, to your colour requirements
  • Prepared for render using Thermalite block slips and beading. Delivered ready for rendering on site
  • Brick infill where brick slips are bonded to the backing panel. This can be carried out in the same or contrasting bricks
