Tackling homelessness with Emmaus

At wienerberger, our purpose of improving people’s quality of life goes beyond the building products we provide.

Through our social impact strategy, we’re taking meaningful action to help prevent homelessness: to support people at risk of homelessness, and to help people who have experienced homelessness get back on their feet.

That’s why we chose to partner with Emmaus UK, a homelessness charity providing a stable home and tailored support for people who have experienced homelessness.

Alongside Emmaus UK, we are helping vulnerable people build for what’s next by funding companion training to improve their employability, donating products to contribute to accommodation improvements, and enabling colleagues to volunteer in local communities.

What our partnership includes

Through our partnership with Emmaus UK, wienerberger provides funding, product donations and volunteering. This is one of several ways wienerberger is addressing homelessness through practical action.

How you can help: Danum TLE roof tiles

As part of our partnership, wienerberger has committed to donating to Emmaus UK 50p for every full pallet of Danum and Dual Danum TLE concrete roof tiles purchased directly from wienerberger. Through this initiative, over £40,000 was donated to Emmaus in 2025.

Funds raised through the initiative support:

  • Emmaus UK’s Build Your Community Fund – grants from this fund are used to improve companion accommodation, including purchasing or renovating properties and supporting new‑build projects.
  • Emmaus UK’s core programmes - these help people rebuild their lives through training, employment and essential support.

Training for employment

wienerberger has also contributed £10,000 to Emmaus UK’s Companion Training and Wellbeing Fund, a grants programme supporting learning and education, including opportunities connected to the construction sector.

In 2024/25, we supported 30 grants to companions, including plumbing courses, roofing tools, trade card renewals and forklift licences, alongside other construction skills and work‑based training.

“The training and college were excellent. The benefit of the training is that I learnt new skills, and it gave me the confidence to realise that I can be a plumber in future years. I am now attending a Level 2 BPEC in Plumbing course, to allow a career in plumbing in the future”. – Damian, Emmaus Hampshire companion

Planting with purpose: social enterprise, reuse and wellbeing at our sites

Our partnership has also included purchasing handcrafted benches and planters from Emmaus Bolton’s social enterprise, installed at wienerberger’s Kingsbury brick plant to create a welcoming outdoor space and support biodiversity‑related wellbeing initiatives.

This activity reflects Emmaus communities’ role in reuse and social enterprise, which generate income to sustain communities and provide opportunities for companions to rebuild skills and confidence.
