Volunteering and fundraising

At wienerberger UK & Ireland, volunteering and fundraising play an important role in how we generate positive social impact, part of our sustainability strategy.

Through paid volunteering time for colleagues, our site Community Funds and long‑term national charity partnerships, we support causes that matter to our people and the communities around our sites and offices.

This approach reflects our commitment to building for what’s next, creating positive social impact beyond our products, and supporting people to thrive.

Paid volunteering time

All wienerberger colleagues are encouraged to take one full paid day each year to volunteer for a cause they care about. This enables colleagues to step away from their day‑to‑day roles and contribute time and skills to their local communities.

Over the past year, colleagues have volunteered with charities and organisations focused on:

  • Food poverty and food redistribution
  • Homelessness support
  • Biodiversity and nature recovery
  • Youth development and education
  • Skills sharing and mentoring

Activities have ranged from sorting food parcels and planting trees, to supporting care leavers, maintaining community spaces and providing interview coaching for students.

Volunteering in action

Recent volunteering activities across the business include:

Volunteering at food hub distribution centre

Tackling food poverty

Teams from our Cheadle office volunteered with The Bread and Butter Thing, helping to sort and distribute surplus food to community food hubs supporting families experiencing food insecurity. Colleagues worked directly in warehouses preparing food parcels for local distribution.

Supporting biodiversity and green spaces

Colleagues have taken part in hands‑on conservation work, including invasive species clearance at Lyme Park, helping restore native woodland and improve local biodiversity. Elsewhere, teams partnered with City of Trees to plant 250 native trees in Greater Manchester, contributing to local green space creation and urban resilience.

Volunteering with band of builders

Using construction skills for good

Colleagues have volunteered with Band of Builders, a charity that brings together people from across the construction industry to carry out essential building work for those in need, including roofing projects for vulnerable families.

Supporting young people and education

Volunteering activities have included mentoring and mock interviews at local schools, as well as support for cadet forces and youth organisations, helping young people build confidence, skills and future opportunities.

The wienerberger Community Fund

Our Community Fund, provides financial support to local causes chosen by our sites and offices across the UK & Ireland. The fund gives colleagues the autonomy to respond to local needs – whether that’s supporting families at Christmas or providing kit to community sports clubs. This support spans youth services, health and wellbeing, homelessness, environmental protection and community causes.
