Community engagement

At wienerberger UK & Ireland, we work closely with community groups, educators and industry partners to support skills, share knowledge and build trust in the communities where we operate.

Our approach focuses on long‑term relationships, practical learning and open dialogue, helping communities understand our operations, while ensuring we listen, respond and contribute positively wherever we operate. Whether through factory open days, education partnerships or community liaison, our aim is to create positive social impact alongside the products and solutions that shape the built environment.

Opening our doors: National Trust Heritage Open Days

We actively participate in the National Trust’s annual Heritage Open Day, England’s largest community‑led celebration of history and culture, by welcoming the public into our factory.

Each year, our Ewhurst brick and tileworks in Surrey opens its doors to local residents, families and heritage enthusiasts, offering free, guided tours of our Keymer tile and brick manufacturing facilities. Visitors gain insight into traditional clay roof tile craftsmanship and the skills that underpin heritage roofing across the UK.

The event typically welcomes around 150 visitors per year and includes:

  • Educational factory tours
  • Hands‑on tile‑making using traditional methods
  • Clay carving demonstrations by our Heritage Services team

These events help strengthen local connections, celebrate regional heritage and showcase the role of skilled manufacturing in the built environment.

Community Liaison Committees

Open dialogue with local communities is essential to how we operate responsibly.

Our Community Liaison Committees (CLCs) bring together residents, local councillors, regulators and wienerberger representatives two to three times per year. Meetings provide a structured forum to discuss:

  • Operational updates
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Local concerns and feedback
  • Opportunities to support community initiatives

Between meetings, committee members help share information within their communities, supporting transparency and ongoing dialogue with our sites. wienerberger provides administrative support to ensure meetings are accessible and effective.
