Building customer confidence through quality standards and innovation

Published 25/08/26

At wienerberger, quality is at the heart of everything we do. From bricks and roof tiles to solar panels and water pipes, we are committed to delivering products that consistently meet the highest standards. By maintaining rigorous quality processes, we give our customers confidence that our products will be delivered ready for use, will perform as expected, and help keep their projects running smoothly. Behind this confidence is a network of people working across our manufacturing sites to ensure quality is embedded into every stage of the production process.

Jake Mosley, Quality Assurance Technician at wienerberger UK & Ireland, is one of these people at our Waresley factory, who's role helps ensure customers receive high-quality bricks they can trust.

"As a Quality Assurance Technician at wienerberger, I carry out a wide range of checks throughout the entire manufacturing process, from quarry to lorry. This includes testing clays, raw materials, sands and additives, as well as conducting dimensional checks, strength testing and assessing the quality of finished fired products. These checks help ensure we consistently product high-quality bricks for our customers.

Alongside John Parker, Technical and Quality Manager at wienerberger, whom I report to, I work closely with the production team, identifying and resolving issues that may arise during the manufacturing process, helping to ensure our products consistently meet the required standards."

Quality at every stage

For Jake, quality isn't something that's checked at the end of production. It's embedded throughout the entire manufacturing process.

"Maintaining quality requires consistency at every stage of production. To ensure consistency across shifts, every operator follows the procedures outlined in our quality manual. At Waresley, we operate in line with ISO 9001 Quality Management System, which is audited regularly throughout the year. This ensures everyone understands the required quality standards, operating parameters and reporting procedures."

From the factory floor to quality assurance

Jake joined wienerberger in September 2022, beginning his career at our Hartlebury factory as a Production Operative before moving his current role in 2024.

"I started working at wienerberger as a Production Operative on a variety of machinery. That hands-on experience gave me a valuable introduction to the heavy clay industry and provided a strong technical foundation. Understanding how the machines work and how the production process operates has been a huge advantage in my current role, particularly when it comes to troubleshooting and problem-solving."

Using technology to improve customer outcomes

As part of wienerberger's commitment to continuous improvement, Jake has helped introduce new ways of working that enable issues to be identified and addressed more quickly.

"One of the projects I'm particularly proud of is implementing an email reporting system linked to our Production Control System (PCS). This system automatically notifies relevant teams when an issue is detected, ensuring information is shared quickly and nothing is missed. The approach has been so effective that it has since been adopted more widely across the business.

Another significant improvement has been the ongoing digitalisation of the site through the PCS platform. It allows us to view production data, inputs, outputs and performance information in real time from anywhere across the factory. Compared with the manual systems we previously used, this gives us much greater visibility and enables us to identify and resolve issues faster than ever before."

Supporting mental health in the workplace

While quality is central to Jake's role, he is equally passionate about supporting the people around him.

"Asides my main role as a Quality Assurance Technician, I also serve as a Mental Health Ambassador and First Aider at work. Mental health is incredibly important, and I'm grateful to work for a company that supports colleagues' wellbeing. In this role, I provide support to fellow team members who may be struggling, offering a listening ear, guidance and signposting where needed. If someone is experiencing difficulties, I can help connect them with the appropriate support and ensure they receive any additional assistance they may need. Knowing that I can help support my colleagues and contribute positively to their wellbeing means a great deal to me."

Building for what's next

For Jake, delivering quality is about more than processes, systems and testing. It's about working together to create products customers can depend on while supporting colleagues to perform at their best every day. By combining technical expertise, innovation and a commitment to people, Jake is helping wienerberger continue building for what's next.
