wienerberger’s Community Fund supports organisations close to its operational sites across the UK & Ireland.
The initiative forms part of their social impact programme of work, ‘Moving Forward Together’ alongside product donations, workplace visits and more.
Earlier this year wienerberger Limited launched its Community Fund to factory sites, aiming to engage colleagues in supporting local groups and charities.
Sites such as Warnham in West Sussex got involved in a fundraising event with local charity Horsham Matters, setting them a ‘challenge’ as part of their Charity Chase day (pictured above, left).
Emma Elnaugh, Managing Director at Horsham Matters comments “We are increasingly reliant on the support of businesses such as wienerberger to help us to continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable residents in Horsham. Engagement from such a local organisation helps us to help others”.
Office sites also took part, choosing one cause to connect with over the course of a year. The business’ Head Office in Cheadle, near Manchester, chose St Anne’s Hospice, whilst the Northern Ireland operations will be supporting Alzheimers NI. wienerberger Limited’s Sandtoft office chose Lindsey Lodge, who offer high quality, specialist palliative care and wellbeing services to people living with progressive life limiting illnesses.
Richard Janseen, Engineering Manager for wienerberger Limited, who nominated Lindsey Lodge, comments “My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer and spent several weeks in and out of the hospice. She spent her final days being cared for by the amazing staff and doctors. The charities’ priority is patient care, but they extend that support to the whole family, helping them through the difficult times of bereavement.”
Causes that have been supported to date through the Community Fund range from a dog rescue centre, a dementia community café, sports teams, a memorial garden (pictured above, right), hospices and a charity supporting homeless families.
In addition, regional partner Pipelife utilised its Community Fund to support two local causes in Cork connected to homelessness; Penny Dinners and the Simon Community.
Building Product Design will also be launching their Community Fund at their Sale, Pinxton and Merthyr sites later this year. Over the years they have carried out many fundraising events and this year have chosen to support The Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham.
