Creating pathways into skills, careers and opportunity
Creating pathways into skills, careers and opportunity
The UK faces a growing skills gap in manufacturing and engineering. At the same time, many people, particularly young people, lack visibility of the opportunities available in modern industry.
At wienerberger UK & Ireland, we see this as an opportunity to create lasting social impact. By opening up access to skills, careers and progression, we are helping people build futures while strengthening the industries and communities around us.
This is how we are building for what’s next.
We are helping young people discover what a career in manufacturing and engineering really looks like today. Colleagues across our business volunteer as STEM Ambassadors, working with schools and education partners to:
By sharing real experiences from roles across the business, we help young people see what’s possible, and where they could fit.
“My journey began at a STEM event I attended when I was 15. Although I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do, I realised there were numerous options that would allow me to follow my interests without focusing too narrowly on one subject. This long-term investment helps ensure we have the skills, capability and expertise needed to succeed, today and in the future.
wienerberger recognises that the construction sector, and in particular manufacturing operations, has a historic gender imbalance. In pursuit of gender parity across our business, we have reviewed and updated company policies to improve inclusivity.
To encourage women to build their careers with us, wienerberger routinely reviews our employee offering across reward and benefits, maternity and paternity provisions, flexible working, access to learning and development opportunities, and conducts succession planning to retain talent within wienerberger UK & Ireland.
We are proud to have female members on our UK & Ireland region Board, and in our broader Leadership Team. Some of these females have been promoted from within wienerberger, and others have been attracted to join our company to develop their careers further. We are making progress toward gender parity but there is still much more to do. We are making progress toward gender parity but there is still much more to do. As of 2026 we have:
