Biodiversity ambassadors

At wienerberger, protecting biodiversity starts on the ground. Across our UK and Ireland sites, our Biodiversity Ambassadors are helping us understand, protect and enhance the ecosystems we depend on.

From surveying wildlife to supporting habitat creation, these colleagues play a vital role in delivering our biodiversity strategy and our wider ambition of building for what’s next.

What is a Biodiversity Ambassador?

Biodiversity Ambassadors are employees who take on an additional role alongside their day-to-day jobs. They act as advocates for nature across our sites, helping to:

  • Monitor local wildlife and habitats
  • Identify risks and opportunities for biodiversity
  • Engage colleagues in biodiversity awareness
  • Support practical site-based improvements

Their work ensures that decisions are informed by real data and local insight.

Supporting our biodiversity commitments

Our Biodiversity Ambassador network is a key part of how we deliver our biodiversity strategy, which includes a commitment to:

  • Use the Biodiversity Net Gain metric to demonstrate a minimum 10% Biodiversity Net Gain is achieved or in progress, when averaged across our land assets, compared to a 2022 baseline.
  • Manage our land assets with the aim of creating valuable habitats and promoting regional biodiversity by increasing connectivity with other biodiverse sites.
  • Consider the biodiversity impact of the company’s products across the whole lifecycle: from raw material sourcing, through the benefits in use, to end-of-life stage.
  • Improve wellbeing outcomes for both our employees and communities.
  • Partner with other organisations to combine different skills, experience, and assets to solve complex problems.
  • Share data with interested stakeholders to improve biodiversity outcomes.

This approach reflects our focus on practical, measurable action, ensuring growth and nature recovery work together.

Voices from our ambassadors

– Jess Connolly, Digital Marketing Manager

“Being part of the team helping species thrive makes my job that extra bit more enjoyable… small steps make big changes.”
