Building Information Modelling (BIM)

What is BIM?

By embracing innovation in all areas of our business, in all its many forms, we’re able to constantly improve what we can offer our clients, as well as consolidating our position as industry thought leaders.

According to the PAS 1192-2:2013, BIM is the process of designing, constructing or operating a building or infrastructure asset using electronic object-oriented information.

For Wienerberger UK, BIM is about having defined processes for our projects and being able to provide accurate and structured data of our products.

With the UK Government mandate for the use of BIM Level 2 on all centrally funded projects from April 2016, Wienerberger UK has adopted this as the standard method for delivery all projects within our Built Environment department.

Wienerberger has aligned internal processes to ISO 19650-2. This supports a fully co-ordinated and collaborative approach towards our projects.

Our BIM Objects

All of our objects can be found on our BIMlab web portal. They are free to download and provide a market-leading level of information within them.

Each model has two types on information, graphical and non-graphical. The graphical element simply depicts the product when rendered and allows the designer to see the shape and size of the product. The nongraphical provides all of the certification, guarantee, life expectancy, technical specifications and material information for the product. It is this element that allows the creation of the specification. By simply utilising one of our models, any contractor wishing to switch a product needs to ensure it meets or exceeds every test result and certification, or it is liable for any future incidents the building may suffer.
