Wienerberger paves the way at East Kent College using Dortmund Dark Multi and Dragfaced Square Edge Blue pavers

The development of the Yarrow Building was part of a £10 million project to improve educational facilities on the Broadstairs Campus at East Kent College.

The Challenge

The state-of-the-art hotel and hospitality training centre was designed to provide the perfect learning environment for skills linked to event management, hospitality, travel and tourism. The 28-room hotel is set in a Grade II listed building and is named The Yarrow after shipbuilding magnate Sir Alfred Yarrow who built it in 1894. This project required the installation of a high performing road extension that would enhance the overall feel of the refurbished listed building, making it the focal point of the college campus.

The Solution

The 1500m² roadway area consisted of 75,000 new clay pavers which were installed over an 8-week period, in time for the start of the September 2015 term. The road was extended beyond the hotel on campus, through to the nursery on the site, allowing for additional parking and drop off points at the college.

The project utilised Wienerberger’s Penter Dortmund Dark Multi and Dragfaced Square Edged Blue pavers on the road to compliment the character of the building. Clay pavers were chosen over concrete to give the finish and longevity that the client required.
