2025 Social Housing Wrap-Up: Key updates, insights and what’s next

Published 30/01/26

2025 was a significant year for wienerberger UK in social housing, filled with major milestones and recognition. From the launch of Renatus, our end-to-end retrofit service to industry accolades at the 2025 Pitched Roofing Awards, here’s a recap of our 2025 highlights.

Launch of Renatus retrofit service

One of the most exciting moments of 2025 was the formal launch of Renatus to the market, a new end to end retrofit service positioned to support social housing providers and deliver safer, more energy-efficient homes through a data-led approach. The housing service delivery focuses on improving housing quality standards and tenant wellbeing.’

The launch was marked by the release of a new website Renatus as well as an event that was held at Liverpool John Moores University, where we have retrofitted three test houses on campus that have been built to different building standards of three different eras – the 1920s, 1970s, and 2010s, allowing the impact of these measures to be assessed and monitored for performance. The event was well attended by social housing providers and the supply chain in the North-West, so much so that we will be holding further events throughout the year – watch this space!

Pitched Roof Awards 2025 – Double award

In November 2025, we were delighted to win two awards at the RCI Magazine Pitched Roofing Awards, alongside our dedicated partners and contractors:

Best Use of Concrete or Clay Tiles for a Commercial Project: The Hawthorns School - executed by Richard Soan Roofing Services in partnership with Keymer Tiles, a wienerberger company.

Sustainable Project of the Year: East Riding of Yorkshire Council Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme - completed by Geo Houlton & Sons in collaboration with wienerberger.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council project was delivered in conjunction with the Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme. The scheme was recognised at the PRA Awards for the successful integration of high-performance sustainable materials by Sandtoft wienerberger, skilled installation by Geo Houlton & Sons, and the long-term sustainability benefits provided to East Riding of Yorkshire Council and its residents.

Renatus & Awaab’s Law

In October 2025 Awaab's Law was passed into law, meaning social landlords in England are now legally obliged to investigate and address reported damp and mould issues within specific timeframes, with a failure to comply risking legal action. Despite this, many individuals continue to live in unsafe conditions due to these hazards.

Access to safe, healthy and energy efficient homes is a fundamental right. Renatus supports social housing providers to improve their housing stock for the benefit of their tenants. Our service not only helps meet new regulatory requirements but also provides data-driven insights to social housing providers to show performance improvements.

Tenant experiences of social housing retrofits

At the heart of everything we do in social housing delivery is our commitment to improving the lives of tenants. That’s why we were so pleased in May last year to receive some fantastic feedback from a tenant in Chorley where we replaced the roofs of a number of bungalows in conjunction with Jigsaw Homes.

“It looks absolutely amazing. In fact, it’s stunning. You drive onto the road now, and it just looks like a different place. The solar panels are also going to help us financially in the future, so I’m really pleased. A big thank you to the team.”

Housing Yorkshire - Continuing the Conversation

wienerberger’s attendance at the Housing Yorkshire conference underscored our ongoing commitment to working closely with housing leaders and supply chain partners to shape healthier, warmer homes for the future. Throughout the event, hosted by Housing Industry Leaders, conversations centred on innovationsustainability, and tenant welfare, with a shared recognition that meaningful progress depends on solutions that are practical, scalable, and firmly rooted in tenant needs. Engaging with stakeholders across the sector allowed us to deepen existing partnerships, explore new collaborative opportunities, and reaffirm our role in driving forward a more resilient, energy‑efficient housing landscape for communities across the region.

Looking forward to 2026

2025 was an exciting year for our work in social housing, and in 2026 we’re ready to go further, delivering even greater impact for the communities we help to serve. With the official launch of Renatus well underway, tackling the national challenge of delivering healthier homes remains a key priority not only for us, but for the entire industry. wienerberger is well-equipped to assist with this complex landscape, not just with Renatus, but also other propositions such as our free, comprehensive roofing system design and specification service, ‘RoofSpec+,’ ’ which offers an impressive 15-year performance guarantee.

What to expect this year

Some of the core activities you can expect to see from us in 2026 are the introduction of a webinar series tackling some of the fundamental challenges facing the social  housing industry, the first of which being a joint talk between ourselves and Octopus Energy titled 'Roofs that pay for themselves'. On the webinar we'll be discussing how our roof system guarantee reduces tenants bills and offers a financial return for social housing providers. If you're interested in learning more, register for the event using our online sign-up link.

We’ll also be sharing monthly newsletters where we’ll be sharing a news roundup that includes our latest activity updates, as well as what’s going on in the industry. We’ll also be attending a number of events in the coming months, such as the Yorkshire Housing Conference, and the Houses of Parliament-hosted event delivered by the BMF ‘Delivering & retrofitting the high-quality homes of the future’.

With all of these activities taking place and much more, 2026 promises to be an exciting year ahead! Make sure to follow wienerberger UK on our social media channels to keep up to date with our latest updates.
