Special Bricks Collection
Wienerberger Fabricated Special Bricks

Special Shaped Bricks

Special Shaped Bricks are exactly what the name suggests; bricks specially designed to various shapes and dimensions to complement and contrast the standard metric or imperial brick

At Wienerberger, our focus has always been on creating high quality, innovative products, but beyond that we also believe it’s our duty to make finding these products simple, quick and easy.

Why use Special Shaped Bricks?

The virtually limitless shapes provide flexibility, both in terms of aesthetics and functionality, giving architects the freedom to create distinctive buildings.

Beyond the numerous aesthetic benefits, Special Bricks can also provide seamless functionality, adding extra durability and protection to brickwork. They can even reduce build time and waste on-site as well as addressing any skills shortages by removing the need for hand cutting expertise.

In terms of their applications, Special Bricks can be used on virtually any project. From high-rise structures to bungalows they simply provide design flexibility, speed of build and a level of aesthetic detail that’s unachievable with standard metric or imperial bricks.

However, with hundreds of Special Bricks on the market to choose from, finding the right shape, with the correct dimensions and angles has previously been a challenge.

Specials Selector tool

We understand that with hundreds of different special shapes in so many different profiles, choosing the right product for the job can be a difficult task, which is why we’ve created the Wienerberger Special Shaped Bricks online platform.

The Wienerberger self-help Specials Selector Tool is a fully interactive web resource that visually filters through all British Standard Specials in three easy steps: by group, profile and finally individual shape – providing the specific technical details covering dimensions and angles, as well as helpful tips and considerations of each individual profile. The Specials Selector Tool can be found at www.specialbricks.co.uk

Using the tools you can find out more about Special Shaped Bricks, work out which ones you need and add them to your very own shortlist. Then simply submit your shortlist, generate an enquiry and we’ll be in touch to discuss your requirements.

As well as helping our customers find the right product for their needs we will also deliver free of charge on orders of 400 specials or more.

How are Special Bricks made?

Special Shaped Bricks are generally made in two ways – manufactured as complete components or cut from one or more standard metric or imperial bricks.

When manufactured as complete components, Special Shaped Bricks can be produced using three methods…

- Wirecut Brick (Extruded)
- Manufactured by extrusion and then wirecut to size. The different Special profiles are created using different shaped dies on the end of the extruder. These are usually perforated but can also be solid.

- Stock Brick (Moulded) - Manufactured using a mould. The clay is either hand or machine thrown into a sanded mould to create the profile.

- Waterstruck Brick (Moulded) - Manufactured using a mould, the clay is either hand or machine thrown into a watered mould to create the profile.

Profiles can be also be created by cutting standard sized bricks. These Fabricated Specials can be cut, cut and bonded, cut and refaced or cut and filleted. All our cut-and-bonded specials are produced with high quality adhesives and complementary sands, ensuring long-term performance and providing a perfect match for our standard facing brick range.

To ensure our customers only ever receive the finest quality products, we exclusively offer performance guarantees on Fabricated Specials that are made in our production sites. Our production sites are also covered by an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

Another benefit of using our Fabricated Specials is our all-inclusive pricing. There’s a misconception that using bricks already on site to produce Fabricated Specials is the better value option, but this calculation usually doesn’t consider the initial cost of the component. Our prices cover the cost of the bricks, the manufacturing of the special shape and even delivery (dependent on volume).
